Biography

Mr. Raymond Laverne Shockley, 66, of Neosho, Missouri departed this life on Sunday evening, May 29, 2011 at Freeman Hospital in Neosho, Missouri after several months of declining health.

Raymond entered this life on September 2, 1944 in Monett, Missouri born to the late Milford Raymond and Leona Thelma (Carpenter) Shockley. He was a 1962 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, Missouri. On July 12, 1965 he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Smith and to this union one daughter and four sons were born. He resided in Monett, Missouri until moving to Lebanon, Missouri in 1980. He retired in 2006 from H.D. Lee in Lebanon after twenty-nine years of employment. In 2010 he decided to relocate to Neosho, Missouri. He enjoyed motor cycles, woodworking, fishing and music. Raymond was a Veteran of the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jean Shockley on May 16, 2005; and two sisters, Sandra Horn and Barbara Stanley.

Raymond is survived by his five children, Sarah M. Shockley of Lathrop, Missouri, Timothy R. Shockley and wife, Jan, of Lebanon, Missouri, Mark R. Shockley and wife, Karen, of Stoutland, Missouri, Philip L. Shockley and Stephen R. Shockley both of Lebanon, Missouri; twenty-four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Belva M. Camp of Monett, Missouri, Helen Morris and husband, Clarence, of Anderson, Missouri; a brother, Kevin R. Smith and wife, Jan, of Monett, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside funeral services with full military honors for Mr. Shockley are 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 10-11:00 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
